BROOKS, Maine — Police say a golf club owner drowned after a truck he was driving on the course slid down an embankment and into a pond.
According to state police Trooper Eric Verhille, 75-year-old Carl Brown was filling a water truck at one of the Country View Golf Club´s ponds Thursday morning when he drove too far trying to turn around.
Brown, a co-owner of the club, was trapped inside when the truck went into the water.
Verhille said it took about 20 to 25 minutes to locate the submerged man and that rescue workers were unable to resuscitate him.
The fatal accident occurred about a half-mile from the clubhouse near the seventh hole of the course, which is built on an old family farm.
