BATH, Maine — A proposed four-year contract that Machinists´ Local S6 shipbuilders will consider on Sunday holds the line on health care contributions, increases pension contributions and provides workers with pay increases of 3.5 percent to 4 percent per year.

The vote at the Augusta Civic Center comes during a period of turmoil for the 3,800 members of Local S6, which was placed into receivership by the international union.

Key Local S6 leaders including President Mike Keenan remain suspended from their union posts and did not take part in the negotiations.

Nonetheless, Machinists spokesman John Carr says he believes the contract is the one of the best, if not the best, in the industry.
