COLLEGE: Graduated from Bowdoin College in 1992 with a degree in psychology. Received school's Common Good Award in 2002.
FOUNDED: Safe Passage in December 1999.
JAN. 18, 2007: Killed in a car accident in Guatemala.

HANLEY'S LEGACY
The plight of children working in the Guatemala City dump inspired Hanley Denning to start Safe Passage, a nonprofit organization that has helped hundreds of youngsters achieve an education in the past seven years.
Staff Writer Josie Huang and Staff Photographer Gregory Rec went to Guatemala City and offer these reports on the people whose lives were touched by Denning's program.
