Exeter man injured in tractor accident; relative dies trying to help
By The Associated Press, wire report
September 20, 2006

EXETER — A 78-year-old Exeter dairy farmer died of an apparent heart attack while trying to rescue a relative who was injured when a tractor overturned.

Paramedics performed CPR on Floyd Curtis on Tuesday but were unable to save him, an official with Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield reported.

Curtis was attempting to rescue Alva Curtis, 55, who was riding the tractor when it toppled over. The younger Curtis was towing a trailer of hay and was headed uphill in a field when the tractor's lighter front end lifted straight up, throwing him off the machine, said Penobscot County Sheriff's Deputy James Kennedy.

Alva Curtis was released after treatment at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft for a broken leg and internal bleeding.
