BAR HARBOR - Many Mount Desert residents awoke to find the earth moving Friday.
Dr. John Ebel from Boston College's Weston Observatory said monitors recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.5 at 6:39 a.m. He said the epicenter was about a mile southwest of the center of Bar Harbor.
There were no reports of damage or injuries.
Ebel said quakes of this magnitude can be felt for several miles, but he said they don't normally cause property damage.
There were reports of additional temblors.
Ebel said he doesn't have any reports on those, but said it's quite possible that there were smaller episodes before or after the main quake.
