Bill Clinton to stump in Maine

By The Associated Press wire report October 10, 2006 11:05 AM

PORTLAND — Former President Bill Clinton is headed to Maine to help raise money for the state's Democratic candidates.

Clinton is scheduled to speak at two fundraisers next Monday -- for the Maine Democratic Party and for Gov. John Baldacci's re-election campaign. Both events will take place at the University of Southern Maine.

The former president's visit comes a week after Howard Dean came to Portland to campaign door-to-door and rally Democrats for the upcoming election. Dean is chairman of the Democratic National Committee and an unsuccessful candidate for his party's presidential nomination in 2004.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio appeared in South Portland on Monday at a campaign rally and fundraiser for Jean Hay Bright, the Democratic candidate for Senate. Hay Bright is running against Republican incumbent Olympia Snowe.
