Soldier's funeral today

By The Associated Press wire report December 13, 2006 11:43 AM

PRESQUE ISLE - Flags will be at half-staff today for the funeral service of an Aroostook County man who was killed in Iraq.

Marine Cpl. Dustin Libby was killed a week ago when he was shot during a firefight in the Anbar Province, the site of some of the bloodiest street fighting in the war.

Libby, who grew up in Castle Hill, was serving his second tour in Iraq. He leaves behind his parents and an older brother. He was engaged to be married to a woman he met while stationed at a base in California.

His private funeral service will be held Wednesday in Presque Isle. Gov. John Baldacci has directed that U.S. and state flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.

Libby's family said they plan to spread Dustin's ashes over Haystack Mountain, where the family grew up.
