By The Associated Press wire report January 19, 2007 11:20 AM

LEWISTON - A drug sweep through the Lewiston-Auburn area led to the arrests of 16 people on charges of distributing cocaine.

Dozens of local officers and federal agents made the arrests Thursday as part of an ongoing investigation into a drug network responsible for circulating cocaine throughout Androscoggin County, officials said.

Fourteen men and three women are accused in a federal complaint of conspiring to distribute crack cocaine. Three also were accused of distributing other drugs, including marijuana, heroin and the painkiller Vicoden.

Only one person who's wanted remained on the lam. The other 16 were arrested without incident and arraigned Thursday night.
