PARIS - Police seized about 90 pounds of marijuana with an estimated wholesale value of $236,500 from a mobile home after investigating an attack by two masked individuals who brutally beat the homeowners, officials said Friday.
The investigation began Thursday morning when Paris police were called to Stephens Memorial Hospital on Norway to investigate a pre-dawn attack on Dwayne Bonney, 47, and his wife, Debbie, 43. The Bonneys told police they believed their attackers were after jewelry and cash.
When police later searched the Bonneys' Bisco Road home, they found plastic crates and garbage bags containing marijuana, which investigators said came from last fall's marijuana crop.
Paris Police and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agents were consulting with the Maine attorney general's office Friday on what charges may be brought.
The Bonneys suffered severe head trauma and lost significant blood in the attack, according to Maine State Police. Dwayne Bonney was transferred to Maine Medical Center for advanced medical care.
