FARMINGTON — Two days of sled dog racing are planned this weekend in Farmington, with as many as 50 teams of dogs on the fields at Sandy River Farms on U.S. Route 2.
The events will be part of the Downeast Sled Dog Club’s race circuit and will be the last race of the season, said organizer Joy Turner of Jay.
Races will be going on from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with one and two-dog ski-joring, four-dog sleds, six and eight-dog sleds and races for young mushers ages 8 to 16.
The length of track is from four to eight miles, depending on the race.
“We’ll also have a one-dog race for kids. We have had youngsters as young as 2 racing and up to 8 years old on a track that is the length of a football field,” she said.
“This will be great fun for the whole family and we hope to have activities for the kids that give them a chance to ask the mushers questions and meet the dogs,” Turner said.
There will be concessions at the fields and admission is free.
