BINGHAM — Somebody is feeding the pack of cats on River Street and Animal Control Officer Travis Andrews would like them to stop.
Between 30 and 35 cats live on the street, estimates Andrews, irritating residents with their nocturnal caterwauling and habit of jumping on cars and scratching the finish.
And after a rabid fox was found just across the Kennebec River from Bingham, Travis said he is even more concerned about the possibility that the feral felines will contract rabies and put people at risk.
“My major concern is a child would see a fluffy animal and go pick it up,” said Andrews. “Just because an animal isn’t frothing at the mouth doesn’t mean they are not already contaminated.”
