Money for the rails

By Kennebec Journal Staff Report March 16, 2007 01:13 PM

AUGUSTA — Senate President Beth Edmonds said today she's seeking a $40 million bond to extend passenger rail service between Portland and Brunswick.

The money would improve the track, and make it possible for the Downeaster to run further north and provide a rail connection to Rockland.

Edmonds said the upgrades would stimulate tourism and commerce in the region.
