Car crashes into house, driver injured

By Morning Sentinel Staff Report April 26, 2007 09:52 AM

SKOWHEGAN — A Massachusetts man was injured when his car slammed into a home on U.S. Route 201 shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday, according to police.
Scott Tolman, 48, of Gloucester, Mass. was taken by air transport to a Bangor hospital after the crash, according to Acting Police Chief Rick Bonneau.

“The vehicle left the road and went airborne,” Bonneau said of early reports on the accident.

Bonneau said none of the occupants in the home was injured, but, he acknowledged, it must have been a shocking way for them to be awakened.
Bonneau said the a cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

However, anytime an accident victim who is the driver is flown to a Bangor hospital, someone from the Bangor Police Department meets the helicopter to get a blood sample from the injured person to be used in a test for alcohol, Bonneau said. A reconstruction of the crash is being requested, he said.

“It is premature to tell if alcohol is a cause. It is suspected,” Bonneau said. He said the case remains under investigation.
