WATERVILLE — Structural repairs and work installing a new concrete surface on the Ticonic Bridge spanning the Kennebec River between Waterville and Winslow got underway Monday morning.
At noon, a dispatcher at the communications center at the Waterville Police Department said there had been no complaints about traffic backups. Cars and trucks were passing with only minor delays.
The current pavement surface is being ground off to be replaced by new concrete, which will stand up better than the current surface, transportation officials said. The new surface will result in smoother riding and help protect it by keeping water and salt out of the structural deck below.
Officials hope to complete the project before July 4, in time for the annual Fourth of July celebration in Winslow.
