SOUTH PORTLAND — Police officers used a Taser stun gun against a South Portland man during a drug arrest Sunday night.
Officers were called to 592 Main St. at 10 p.m. by a resident reporting a child possibly being exposed to drug abuse. The officers made contact with Arden Shaw, 34, who was out on bail on a prior arrest for drug possession, motor vehicle burglary and theft. Also at the address was Jessica Johnson, 26. Police searched the residence, as allowed by Shaw’s bail conditions, said Lt. Frank Clark.
Officers found evidence of drugs and attempted to arrest Shaw. During a struggle, police tried to subdue Shaw with pepper spray, Clark said. The officers then shocked Shaw with the Taser. Johnson slapped or punched one of the officers in the head and also was arrested, Clark said.
Shaw was arrested for violation of release, refusing to submit to arrest, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Johnson was arrested for assault on a police officer, refusing to submit to arrest, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
