State to honor law enforcement officers

By Kennebec Journal Staff Report May 16, 2007 10:54 AM

Law enforcement officers from around the state will come to Augusta at 11 a.m. Thursday for the annual ceremony honoring those who have died in the line of duty.

This year, the name of Androscoggin County Deputy Sheriff David Rancourt will be added to the memorial on State Street. Rancourt died in November in a departmental diving accident.

He is the 82nd Maine police officer to die in the line of duty, according to the state Department of Public Safety.

Gov. John Baldacci will be the featured speaker.
