AUGUSTA — A legislative committee reaffirmed support today for a bill that would allow Waterville to operate its own dispatch center until at least 2011.
The Utilities and Energy Committee reconsidered a bill sponsored by Sen. Lisa Marrache, D-Waterville, that sought to allow a second center in Kennebec County even though state law calls for only one. The committee voted 9-0 in favor of the bill.
Waterville officials have said it’s too costly and inefficient to send all calls to a regional dispatching center in Augusta.
