WHITEFIELD — A local firefighter was overcome by smoke and taken to a hospital today, following a structure fire on Head Tide Road. Fire department officials said Joshua Mooers was being evaluated at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta after the midday fire.

Whitefield Fire Chief Jim Brann was reportedly still at the scene of the fire this afternoon, and further details were not immediately available.

A hospital spokeswoman said at 2 p.m. that Mooers was still at the hospital.
