Another attack on Wiscasset flock

By Elbert Aull Portland Press Herald Staff Writer June 04, 2007 05:19 PM

WISCASSET — Police and game wardens are investigating another sheep attack at a pasture on West Alna Road.

At least 14 sheep are either dead or missing since the early-morning incident, the second consecutive overnight attack on Newcastle farmer Lee Straw’s Wiscasset flock.

Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Spokesman Mark Latti said wardens are helping Wiscasset police collect evidence at the scene, a pasture on land owned by Bob Horne.

Horne allows Straw, of Newcastle, to keep a flock of around 30 sheep on his Wiscasset property.

Some time either late Saturday or early Sunday, dogs jumped or toppled an electric fence and killed 15 sheep, many of them pregnant ewes.

Latti said wardens were called to a similar scene this morning.
