School buses carrying students to Litchfield's Libby Tozier School this morning were diverted to Carrie Ricker School as a precaution because a propane tank had overturned near the school.
Christine Cameron, principal of Carrie Ricker, said students in kindergarten through second grades were sent to Carrie Ricker around 7:30 a.m., instead of Libby Tozier school because of its proximity to the spill.
"The students are at Carrie Ricker along with their teachers and all of the staff is up here," Cameron said. "The students didn't even get off their buses at Libby Tozier. We anticipate having them for the entire day."
The spill closed the north- and southbound lanes from Sabattus to Gardiner for a distance of about 20 miles from the Sabattus exit to the Gardiner exit where Interstate 295 merges with the turnpike.
