AUGUSTA — Two students will be able to serve on the Maine Board of Education as non-voting members.
Gov. John Baldacci signed the measure into law last week. One high school junior and one high school senior will serve on the board. The board is now developing a system to choose the student members.
Maine received a grant from the National Association of State Boards of Education to increase student participation in education policy.
A conference on student participation at the local and state levels will be held in August. Students who would like to be considered for attendance at the conference should contact Rhonda Casey at rhonda.casey@maine.gov or at 624-6616.
