Medication collection in mid-coast Friday

By John Richardson Portland Press Herald Staff Reporter June 12, 2007 04:45 PM

Mid coast residents are being urged to drop off out-of-date or unwanted medications at several collection sites Friday.

The medication collection is intended to prevent misuse of prescription and over-the-counter drugs and keep them from getting flushed down toilets or thrown into the trash. Medications that get into sewers or landfills can threaten the environment and wildlife.

The collection has been organization by a range of community groups and agencies, including Mid Coast Hospital, area law enforcement agencies, Volunteers of America, Triad, the Elder Abuse Task Force of Mid Coast Maine.

Medications will be collected between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the West Bath Fire Station, Mid Coast Senior Health Center on Baribeau Drive in Brunswick, Topsham Public Library on Foreside Road, and Richmond Town Hall.

For more information, call Marla Davis at Mid Coast Hospital at 373-6586.
