Pot plants plucked
in downtown Gardiner
GARDINER — More than 100 marijuana seedlings were harvested by police in downtown Gardiner after a tip revealed the location of the plants.
Gardiner Police Chief James Toman said the plants were about four inches tall and discovered along the railroad tracks off Depot Square. Police plucked all of the little plants and carted them off to be destroyed Monday evening.
How they sprung up along the tracks remains something of a mystery the chief said wouldn’t likely be solved anytime soon.
“No one has come forward to report that they’re missing,” he said Tuesday.
Tex Tech employee injures hand at work
MONMOUTH — An employee at Tex Tech Industries in north Monmouth suffered a hand injury Tuesday morning and was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
George Adams was apparently at work when the incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m.
Monmouth police confirmed he was taken by ambulance to the hospital. A spokesman at the medical center was unable to provide a report on Adams' condition Tuesday afternoon.
Tex Tech employs about 345 people at its north Monmouth plant, originally a 19th-century woolen blanket mill. The firm now manufactures sophisticated felts for the aerospace industry and other applications, including felt for tennis balls.

Deputy Henry Grenier responded to a report of loud music from a residence in the Jefferson area.
Upon arrival, Grenier noticed numerous alcoholic beverage containers on the ground and on chairs.
A woman who identified herself as Antoinette M. Gagnon, 18, of Jefferson told deputies the residence belonged to her parents and the party was hers. After all of the underaged guests were identified and issued summonses for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, Gagnon was arrested on charges of furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol and endangering the welfare of a child after a 15-year-old juvenile was determined to have been consuming alcohol at the location.
