Fire slows turnpike traffic

By Kennebec Journal Staff Report June 13, 2007 09:39 AM

FARMINGDALE — Northbound traffic on the Maine Turnpike resumed just before 9 a.m. once firefighters cleaned up after a car fire.

Bill Ebert, captain of the Farmingdale Fire Department, said no one was hurt in the fire that occurred in the northbound side of the turnpike at Mile 107.

He said the driver — the vehicle’s lone occupant — was sitting in a Maine State Trooper’s cruiser when firefighters arrived.

"She told us she was heading to a garage to have repairs done on the vehicle,” Ebert said.

Motorists headed to Augusta were caught in a backup that ranged from half a mile to three-quarters of a mile, Ebert said.
