A Monmouth man was charged with imprudent speed and failure to wear a seat belt today after his car struck a tree and then a stone wall in Winthrop.
Winthrop Police Sgt. Dan Cook said Sean Holbrook, 19, was traveling too fast when he lost control of his late-model sedan while southbound on Winthrop Center Road. Holbrook was not seriously hurt but his vehicle was heavily damaged, police said.
The incident occurred about 9:30 a.m.
