Net widens in homicide investigation

By Morning Sentinel Staff Report June 13, 2007 12:48 PM

NEW PORTLAND — The list of people police want to contact regarding the homicide of Louise Brochu grows every day.

All around the 43 acres of New Portland Wood Flooring land the Brochu co-owned, investigators are still at it. Accompanied by search dogs, they combed through the property — and land surrounding it — again on Wednesday.

While residents of this tiny village at the foothills of the Maine’s western mountains are locking their doors in fear that a killer is loose, the hunt for Brochu’s killer goes full-tilt.

“We’ve made a decision to give the site and surrounding areas a go-over,” Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety said Wednesday. “We’ve been there since 8, and will be there all day.”

Ten Maine State Police officers were at the Route 27 site in New Portland’s west village Wednesday, McCausland said.
