By John Richardson Portland Press Herald Staff Reporter June 14, 2007 12:39 PM

PORTLAND — Police arrested three men after residents reported gunfire in the Kennedy Park neighborhood.

Abdi Awad, 21, of South Portland was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. Aregawi Gebrewahid, 22, of Portland, was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.

Mohamed Abdulkarim, 22, of Falmouth, was arrested for a bail violation but not charged in connection with the gunshots.

Residents reported several gun shots at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday during an argument on Boyd Street that started between two men and grew to include a small crowd.

Witnesses said Awad pointed a handgun and fired it, while Gebrewahid showed a weapon but did not fire, according to police.

A Boyd Street resident who was watching the argument through a window told police he heard a bullet come through the wall into his apartment. Police later found the bullet in the apartment.

Police said they confronted the group of men near Fox Street and witnesses identified the two who were arrested on weapons charges. No handguns were found on the men and no injuries were reported, police said.
