LITCHFIELD — At least one person is dead today after an auto accident on the northbound lane of the Maine Turnpike in Litchfield, Maine State Police officials said.

The accident occurred at 3 p.m. at mile 92, a turnpike spokesman said, near the Turnpike Authority’s Litchfield Maintenance Facility.

State police were in the process of closing at least part of the turnpike to assist emergency responders.

Emergency officials early on the scene called for a medical helicopter to be flown to the site.
