AUGUSTA — Members of the Maine House today remembered the life of Patrick
Damon of Falmouth who died a year ago while on duty in Afghanistan.
Damon, a Statehouse fixture from 1994 to 2004, worked in the House
Democratic Office, Speaker’s Office and for Gov. John Baldacci.
A member of the 240th Engineer Group of the Maine Army National Guard,
Damon, 41, was remembered as a “vital part of this legislative family.”
“He was like a walking encyclopedia,” said Rep. Deborah Simpson,
D-Auburn. “He was a true public servant.”
Later today, Gov. John Baldacci is expected to sign a bill supported by
Damon’s mother, Barbara, that puts in place stronger medical assessments
before soldiers are sent to war.
