Blind man's canoe found

By Morning Sentinel Staff Report June 26, 2007 11:26 AM

WATERVILLE — Police have recovered a canoe that was taken Monday from College Avenue where the owner left it with a for-sale sign attached.

The owner, Doug Handy, is legally blind and said he has been selling his belongings to gather enough money to buy groceries and pay bills.

The canoe was the last thing he owns that has any value, he said. He and his daughter, Shania, 9, discovered it was missing after they returned home from fishing in Vassalboro on Monday, he said.

Police are investigating the incident.
