ALDER STREAM TOWNSHIP — A Canadian woman was listed in fair condition at a Bangor hospital Tuesday after the car she was driving on Route 27 Monday night crashed into a ledge, pinning her in the vehicle, according to police.

Michele Clement-Laberge, 18, of Lile-Bizard, Quebec, was airlifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center after the crash, which occurred while she was driving south at a high rate of speed in a 2002 Hyundai, said state police Trooper Scott Nichols, who investigated the accident.

The speed limit is 45 m.p.h. on the stretch of road, which is marked by a series of sharp “S” curves, according to Nichols.

Clement-Laberge lost control of the car while trying to negotiate one of the curves and the vehicle flipped over and the roof crashed into a ledge on top of her, pinning her inside, he said.
