PITTSFIELD—Warsaw Middle School teacher Holly Waldrip recently returned home after getting a taste of what it is like to be an astronaut.
Waldrip was one of four teachers from Maine, and 265 teachers from around the world, to be selected to take part in the Honeywell Educators at Space Academy program at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Waldrip was selected from a pool of more than 1,000 applicants.
The space academy is designed to provide teachers with new and innovative techniques to teach their students math and science.
During the 11 day training, Waldrip completed 50 hours of professional development in activities ranging from classroom and laboratory lectures to astronaut training exercises, including a high-performance jet simulation.
