FREEDOM—The planning board is set to once again consider an application to erect three wind turbines on Beaver Ridge.
The board, which is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the town office, will likely decide whether to approve Portland-based Competitive Energy Service's application to install the 400-foot electricity-generating wind mills.
The company has been seeking approval for more than a year. The town developed and accepted a commercial development review ordinance last year in response to the company's application.
The planning board determined in December that the project met the requirements of the ordinance, but the Board of Appeals, which found the project would not meet the noise and bonding requirements in the ordinance, overturned the decision.
Voters in last month's referendum, however, repealed the ordinance, opening the door for Competitive Energy to reapply.
The company has committed to completing the same project approved by the planning board, but will only have to meet basic criteria required for an ordinary building permit.
