By Kennebec Journal Staff Report August 01, 2007 11:14 AM

AUGUSTA — Maine Democratic Party Chairman Ben Dudley has accepted a job
with a new organization called the Maine Civic Engagement
Project.

Dudley, who is stepping down from his position as party chairman, will
begin his new duties Aug. 13, according to a press release from the
group.

The Maine Civic Engagement Project, also known as Maine Blueprint, is a
collaborative of 40 progressive non-profits and 100 individuals who began
meeting nearly two years ago, said Sarah Standiford, executive director
of the Maine Women’s Lobby.

The group will conduct voter research to help them achieve their goals,
recruit and train candidates for office, and push to advance public
policy.

Dudley will be their first executive director.

Groups that are members of the coalition include the Environmental Health
Strategy Center, Equality Maine, Maine AFL-CIO, the League of Young
Voters, Maine Center for Economic Policy, the NAACP Portland Branch, and
the Natural Resources Council of Maine.
