A 22-year-old Farmington, N.H., man suspected of robbing a bank in Farmington Tuesday was tracked down at a Saco motel this morning and taken into custody.
Saco police received information this morning from Farmington police that the robbery suspect, Derek Potocki, may be at the Hilltop Motor Inn along Route 1 in Saco. The Biddeford-Saco-Old Orchard Beach SWAT team surrounded the motel, and Potocki surrendered peacefully at about 9 a.m., said Saco Police Sgt. David Loranger.
As a precaution, about 30 children attending the Pooh Bear Care Daycare Center, which sits adjacent to the motel, were evacuated to the Saco Community Center while police surrounded the motel, said daycare Director Ruth Rice-Caraballo.
Potocki is suspected of robbing a TD Banknorth branch in Farmington.
He will be transferred to the York County Jail.
