School reorganization plan

By Central Maine Newspapers August 12, 2007 04:14 PM

WINSLOW — Imagine a regional school unit that incorporates the communities of Waterville, Winslow and Oakland.

Winslow Town Manager Michael W. Heavener said such a configuration makes sense and could become a reality.

“I met with (Oakland based School Administrative District 47 Superintendent) Jim (Morse) last Thursday,” Heavener said. “And last Friday Jim left a message saying he had spoken to (Waterville Superintendent) Eric Haley and said that Waterville was interested in sitting together and bringing together the three school systems, so I thought that was very good news.”

SAD 47’s member towns are Oakland, Belgrade and Sidney.

Heavener said the Winslow Town Council will meet with Winslow school officials Monday at the Council’s 7:30 meeting at the Town Office to discuss the proposal.
