CLINTON — Maine Farm Days, a celebration of farming and the people who bring food to America’s table, begins Friday at Misty Meadows Farm on Hill Road.
The farm, owned by the Stoughton family, was the Maine Dairy Farm of The Year for 2006. Farm Days runs through Saturday.
“The family is willing to open up their operation to the public for two days during one of the busiest times of the year,” said Dale Finseth of sponsor Kennebec County Soil and Water Conservation District.
Maine Farm Days will feature displays, a specific children’s area focused on farm education, a corn maze, and various equipment demonstrations, including a GPS-driven tractor that does not include a driver.
There will be chainsaw safety classes, conservation wagon tours with the wagons pulled by antique tractors, a “cow power” methane digester workshop and a presentation on how to generate electricity from cow manure.
Conservation wagon tours will be offered all day long.
Helicopter rides will be available and Backyard Farms, a hothouse tomato-growing operation, will have a display to explain their greenhouse operation in Madison and show their products.
A series of chainsaw workshops is scheduled for both days.
