The Maine Warden Service and the Cumberland County District Attorney’s office have released new details surrounding the fatal boating crash on Long Lake in Harrison last weekend, including the names of the four people directly involved.
At about 9 p.m. Saturday, according to the release, a 32-foot Sunsation boat with twin 435 horsepower engines collided with a 14-foot Glasspar powered by a 115 horsepower outboard.
Killed in the crash were the owner of the 14-foot Glasspar, Terry Raye Trott, 55, of Naples, and a passenger, 44-year-old Suzanne Groetzinger of Berwick.
According to the state Medical Examiner's Office, the cause of Trott's death was drowning with blunt force trauma and Groetzinger was killed by blunt force trauma to the head.
The two survivors were the owner of the 32-foot Sunsation, Robert Lapointe, 38, of Medway, Mass., and a passenger in his boat, 19-year-old Nicole Randall of Bridgton.
After the collision Saturday night, the Sunsation boat continued and ended up onshore, 134 feet, 9 inches from the waters edge. Both Lapointe and Randall were thrown from the boat and swam to shore.
After recovering the bodies of Trott and Groetzinger yesterday, Game Warden divers retrieved crash debris from the lake bottom. Wardens plan to reconstruct the crash as part of their investigation.
Game wardens will complete the investigation and then meet with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office to discuss the findings. No timeline has been set on when the investigation will conclude, according to the agencies.
