Police are responding to an armed man who has barricaded himself in a house in Wells this afternoon.

Members of the State Police tactical team have been called in to help resolve the situation. There were reports that shots may have been fired but the man appears to be alone.

Police say that to protect public safety they have cordoned off an area between the Wells toll on the Maine Turnpike and Route 1 which has led to traffic delays in the area.
