A 22-year-old Buxton man was killed in a single-vehicle accident Friday after he lost control of his car and struck a tree about 8:20 p.m.

The man, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, was traveling at "excessive speeds" along Turkey Lane near Henry Hill Road, according to the Buxton police. He passed another car traveling east on the road just before Henry Hill Road and lost control, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the car.
