Wiscasset's Board of Selectmen is scheduled to take a critical vote tonight that could have an impact on the future of a proposed gasification plant.
Twin River Energy has asked that selectmen place an amendment to the town's height ordinance on the Nov. 6 ballot. The amendment is needed for the company to build a 230-foot plant capable of converting coal to electricity.
Scott Houldin, a representative for Twin River, said that without the height change the project would have to be scrapped.
Tonight's meeting is set for 6 in the Wiscasset town office on Route 1. Citizens opposed to the project also are expected to present selectmen a petition signed by more than 200 people.
