SKOWHEGAN — Sports for adults is the focus of Skow-lympics , a new event scheduled for Oct. 6 and 7, sponsored by the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce.
Working with the Skowhegan Parks and Recreation Department, organizers have secured space at the Community Center and at some area ballfields for Columbus Day weekend for a two-day, three-event tournament for people 18 years or older.
The three events are basketball, volleyball on Saturday and double elimination softball on Sunday.
Teams consist of 10-12 players, and there are various prices for each team level. A ringer team is $100 for one event only, a non-business team is $200 for all three events) and a business-sponsored team is $300 for all three events. The business names will be printed on the T-shirts.
Business-sponsored teams need only one employee on the roster and the rest can just be customers, family members or friends.
For a business sponsored team in the tournament, the Chamber needs to have the registration forms returned by Sept. 25, so that the T-shirt printer has time to get all the names on all the shirts.
“ This doesn't mean we need a complete roster set by then, but rather if (a business) has a partial roster we can just add a few generic shirt sizes to the roster spots that (they) will be filling in the weeks leading up to the tournament,” said Cory R. King, executive director of the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce.
