Sanford woman killed in turnpike crash

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report October 03, 2007 10:34 AM

The woman who died on the turnpike in a single-vehicle roll-over crash was Heather Gailloux, 29, of Sanford.

Gailloux's 11-year-old son, Justin, was also in the car at the time of the crash. He was injured with a broken shoulder. He was wearing a seatbelt.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. yesterday in the southbound lane of the turnpike in Saco. Police say Gailloux was trying to pass a vehicle when she drifted too far to the left, hitting the rumble strip. She then over-corrected the car by steering right, then left. The car overturned, slid along the guardrail and came to rest on its roof in the passing lane of the turnpike northbound.

Gailloux was thrown from the vehicle and killed. She was not wearing her seatbelt.
