By Rachel Lenzi Portland Press Herald Staff Writer October 05, 2007 04:29 PM

Ed Feeney has resigned as girls basketball coach at Portland High.

Feeney coached the Bulldogs for 26 years and earned his 400th career win in 2005.

"My daughter is in college and I've been away from my family at Christmas for the past 25 years, with tournaments," Feeney said. "I've got grandchildren now and I want to spend more time with my family."

Feeney's Portland High teams won 11 Western Class A titles, including nine from 1983 to 1992, and won the Class A championship in 1988. The Bulldogs also played in four straight state title games from 1989 to 1992.

Feeney will continue to teach physical education at Lyman Moore Middle School in Portland.
