Forum set for Peaks Island candidates

By Kelley Bouchard Portland Press Herald Staff Writer October 16, 2007 12:50 PM

Peaks Island voters will have a chance Saturday to meet and question candidates for a new board that will advise the Portland City Council on island issues.

A forum featuring candidates for the Peaks Island Advisory Council will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the gym at the island elementary school.

Fourteen Peaks residents are running in the Nov. 6 election for seven seats on the board. The City Council established the board this year after some islanders tried to secede from Portland.

The forum moderator will be City Councilor Kevin Donoghue, who represents the islands. The forum is sponsored by the city.

Candidates for the advisory council are Matthew Barnes, Thomas Bohan, Jessica Burton, Melissa Conrad, Lawrence Foster III, Gerald Garman, Robert Hurley, Michael Langella, Kathryn Moxhay, Howard Pedlikin, Lynne Richard, Elizabeth Stout, Robert Tiffany and Jenny Yasi.
