By The Associated Press wire report October 19, 2007 10:32 AM

CARIBOU - A Caribou couple has been charged with drug trafficking after allegedly receiving a package that contained about 6 ounces of cocaine embedded in scented candles, according to the Maine State Police.

Ronald Simon, 52, and Donna York, 40, were charged earlier this month by agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency after receiving a Federal Express package containing the candles. The drugs were allegedly detected as they were being shipped from Texas.

Nearly 2 pounds of cocaine have been delivered in Aroostook County in recent months using candles, said Shawn Gillen, Aroostook County MDEA supervisor.
