Nielsen plans to appeal rulings

By The Associated Press wire report October 25, 2007 08:00 AM

The Associated Press is reporting this morning that Christian Nielsen plans to appeal pretrial rulings that preceded his decision to plead guilty to killing four people in western Maine.

Defense lawyers expect to file their appeal in Oxford County Superior Court today, one week after Nielsen entered his guilty pleas. Nielsen, 32, pleaded guilty to four counts of murder in the deaths of three women and a man over a four-day period last year.

But it was a conditional plea. He can take it back if his lawyers win their appeal of a judge's denial of a motion to suppress statements Nielsen made to police and his father. He also may appeal a ruling that he was fit to stand trial.
