UMF Dancers to perform Nov. 9

By Morning Sentinel Staff Report October 25, 2007 10:04 AM

FARMINGTON — The UMF Dancers will perform their
winter 2007 concert, “Connection and Alienation,” at 7:30 p.m., on Nov. 9,
in Nordica Auditorium at University of Maine at Farmington’s Merrill Hall.

The presentation features seven original choreographed pieces inspired by
twenty-one-year-old Franco-Algerian author Faiza Guene’s novel “Kiffe Kiffe
Tomorrow,” and will be performed to the live, original, Mississippi Delta-inspired blues guitar music of UMF student and music major Ben Prentiss.

The student dancers’ original, choreographed performances express the
novel’s themes of alienation and isolation felt by the Muslim heroine,
Doria, as she lives her day to day life in a fictional Parisian ghetto.
