VASSALBORO—The rain did not keep hunters away from their breakfasts on the opening day of Maine’s firearm deer hunting season.
More than 150 people, about half of whom were hunters, turned out for the annual opening day breakfast at the Riverside Fire Station on Route 201, said Fire Chief Eric Rowe.
Rain fell heavily as dawn broke, but had slowed by mid-morning. Weather forecasters are calling for rain showers throughout today.
Hunters’ breakfasts were held throughout the region, including Skowhegan, Hartland, Canaan and Cornville.
