Skowhegan monument honors war dead

SKOWHEGAN — A new, spear-shaped stone honoring Skowhegan area soldiers killed in wars is in place at Veterans Memorial Park.

Tom McCarthy, president of the Veterans Memorial Park committee, said that he encourages family members of those who paid the ultimate price can attend a Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11. The event begins at 11 a.m.

McCarthy said that the names of some veterans from as far away as Dexter are inscribed on the stone.
